The UF/IFAS Insect Identification Lab

Welcome to the Insect ID Lab in the University of Florida’s Entomology and Nematology Department! We are located on the University of Florida’s main campus in Gainesville, FL.

Whether you’re a pest control professional, Extension agent, home gardener, or simply a resident wanting to identify a bug in your home, the Insect ID Lab is here to help you. Capture your specimen(s), package them as instructed, complete the needed paperwork, and send it off for identification. We can provide tentative diagnostic services via email, but cannot guarantee accuracy of photo identification.

The Insect ID Lab’s mission is to provide Floridians with accurate, timely, and informative insect and arthropod identification services.
